Toyota RAV4>> Transmission>> The repair and adjusting work which is carried out on cars with an automatic transmission>> Check, adjustment and replacement of a cable of management with a butterfly valve
       NOTE
These operations are made only on the models which were issued till 2001

Check
Remove the case of the air filter and an air inlet branch pipe.

Fig. 9.11. Distance measurement between an end face of a cover of a cable and a stopper on a cable of management of a butterfly valve: X = 0–1 mm

The assistant should press against the stop and hold an accelerator pedal, at this time measure distance X (fig. 9.11) between edge of a cover of a cable and a stopper on a cable. If the distance is equal to 0-1 mm then the cable is adjusted correctly, otherwise execute cable adjustment.
Adjustment
The assistant should press against the stop and hold an accelerator pedal, at this time weaken a lock-nut and, rotating an adjusting nut, adjust the provision of a cover of a cable so that the distance between an end face of a cover of a cable and a stopper on a cable was in limits of 0-1 mm.
Tighten a lock-nut, repeatedly measure distance between edge of a cover of a cable and a stopper on a cable and check that the butterfly valve opens completely by pressing against the stop accelerator pedals.
Replacement
Weaken a lock-nut and remove a cable cover from an arm of throttle knot.
Disconnect a cable from butterfly valve sector.
Disconnect a cable cover from an arm on a transmission.
Following on a cable down, define a place of its entrance in a transmission case. Turn out the bolt supporting a cable at demanded level.
Merge transmission liquid from a transmission, remove the pallet and the filter.
On models with one leading bridge of release from 1996 to 1998 turn out two bolts and remove an arm supporting pipes with transmission liquid. Disconnect pipes from a transmission.

Fig. 9.13. An arrangement of bolts of fastening of the mechanical valve on all-wheel drive models: And — a bolt, 22 mm; In — a bolt, 37 mm

On all-wheel drive models turn out two bolts and remove a clamp spring (fig. 9.12) . On models with one leading bridge only one bolt is established. On all-wheel drive models turn out five bolts and remove the mechanical valve (fig. 9.13) .
On release models from 1996 to 1998 disconnect all electric sockets from solenoids.
On all-wheel drive models turn out a bolt, release a clip, and a big screw-driver take all eight oil tubes.

On all-wheel drive models turn out the bolts, fixing the electric socket, release a clamp and take a small oil tube (fig. 9.14) .

Fig. 9.18. A detachment of a cable of management of a butterfly valve from a cam on the case of valves

Turn out bolts of fastening of the case of valves (fig. 9.15, 9.16, 9.17) . Separate the case of valves from a transmission and disconnect a cable of management of a butterfly valve from a cam on the case of valves (fig. 9.18) .
Installation make in sequence, return to removal, taking into account the following.
After assembly of a transmission fill in in it transmission liquid.
If the new cable is established, fix on it a stopper as follows.

Fig. 9.19. Stopper installation on a new cable of management of a butterfly valve

Bend the cable end from throttle knot on radius of 200 mm. Extend a cable from a cover before emergence of small resistance, then fix a stopper on a cable at distance of 0,8-1,5 mm from edge of a cover of a cable (fig. 9.19) .
Connect a cable to sector of a butterfly valve and fix a cable cover on an arm, then execute adjustment.
