Toyota RAV4>> The monitoring system and decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases>> Catalytic converter
On models since 2001 of release catalytic converter is incorporated with a final collector.
On all cars catalytic converters for reduction of quantity of the harmful substances released into the atmosphere with fulfilled gases are established.
To the case of converter executed from stainless steel, inlet and final cones with branch pipes and fixing flanges, and also the heatreflectors holding a ceramic covering are welded. All internal volume of the case is occupied with the ceramic porous monolith catalyst fixed by rings or a grid from stainless steel. The catalyst represents the filter in which all internal and external surface of the time contacting to gases, is covered with very thin layer of an alloy which contains platinum, rhodium and a palladium. The porous catalyst has the big area of the surface covered with this alloy from very expensive metals that in the basic and defines the high price of catalytic converters.
In the catalyst there is a reaction as a result of which potentially dangerous hydrocarbon and a carbon oxide in the fulfilled gases turn into safe gases and water vapor.
Replacement of catalytic converter make as follows:
– for simplification of an otvorachivaniye of nuts of compound of catalytic converter previously impregnate them with the liquid weakening connections;

– turn out nuts and separate catalytic converter from system of production of the fulfilled gases (fig. 7.31, 7.32) .
Installation make in sequence, return to removal.
