Leakages of transmission liquid most often occur because of wear and aging of sealing cuffs of power shafts or a speedometer drive (the sensor of speed). Replacement of these rings comes easy, as it is possible to replace them, without removing a transmission from the car.
Replacement of cuffs of power shafts
Sealing cuffs are located on each side transmissions, in places where power shafts incorporate to semi-axial gear wheels of differential. At leakage of liquid through sealing cuffs of power shafts lateral surfaces of a case of a transmission will be covered with transmission liquid.
Lift the car on the lift.
Remove a power shaft.

Edge of a screw-driver or stripper take out a cuff from a groove in a differential case, thus do not damage a groove surface
(fig. 9.10)
.
Clear a groove for cuff installation.
Grease with engine oil an external surface and a working edge of a new cuff.
Tubular opravka with external diameter, a little smaller, than external diameter of a cuff, establish a cuff in a groove. Be convinced that the cuff is established without a distortion.
Depth of installation of a sealing cuff concerning a groove end face in the case of differential, mm:
– the right side on models from 1996 to 2001 –0,5... + 0,5
– the left side on models with one leading bridge from 1996 to 2001 4,7... 5,7
– both parties on all-wheel drive models from 1996 to 2001 –0,5... + 0,5
– both parties on models with one leading bridge since 2001 –0,5... + 0,5
– the right side on all-wheel drive models since 2001 –0,5... 1,5
– the left side on all-wheel drive models since 2001 –0,5... + 0,5
Establish a power shaft, thus do not damage a working edge of a sealing cuff.
Replacement of a sealing ring of the sensor of speed
In a transmission two sensors of speed are established: one supervises frequency of rotation of primary shaft, another — a secondary shaft. They are fixed equally: the bolt supporting them at demanded level. Sealing is carried out by a sealing ring of round section.
For replacement of a sealing ring disconnect the electric socket of the sensor, turn out a bolt and remove the sensor of speed from a transmission case.
Edge of a screw-driver remove a sealing ring from the sensor, establish a new sealing ring and grease it with transmission liquid.
Installation make in sequence, return to removal.
Replacement of a cuff of a transfer case on all-wheel drive cars
Remove the driveshaft.
Edge of a screw-driver take an old cuff, thus do not damage a groove surface for installation of a cuff and a shlitsa of a shaft.
Clear a groove for cuff installation.
Grease with engine oil a surface of a new sealing cuff.
Tubular opravka with external diameter, a little smaller, than external diameter of a cuff, establish a new cuff in a groove. Be convinced that the cuff is established without a distortion on depth from 1,1 to 1,9 mm.
Grease shlitsa and the external surface of a flange contacting to a sealing cuff, and establish the driveshaft.
